You may think that this article is just another generic insight from a Managing Director and Partner with a relatively ordinary comment on the outstanding performance of our team, but you couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, it isn’t about that at all.
This is my declaration of appreciation for every single member of the G&E family in both Leeds and London – because, for us, this isn’t a job – it’s our home and our livelihood, and we love it.
Following the news that we have officially been recognised as one of Yorkshire’s most exciting companies to watch in 2020, I want to explain and provide an insight into how unbelievably proud I am of how far we’ve come.
We don’t operate in a typical industry. We battle every day in an incredibly saturated and competitive marketplace to provide our clients with international talent management and succession planning services to drive real change to their operations. Is it hard work? Of course it is, but it’s worth every second.
Expanding on the article in the Insider, our consultancy in medical devices and life sciences, natural resources, private equity and built environment, particularly in the US market, is and always has been driven by our passion to remain at the top of the game in every way. From kayaking across Lake Windermere (where we raised a substantial amount for Leeds Mind) to creating immediate solutions, we make sure that we’re the best.
To be listed as one of the most exciting companies in the region isn’t surprising; we truly believe in everything we do and work our arses off for each other every single day.
Our immediate plans to guide the business into new markets and ventures is a top priority for 2020, which will also include the opening of our first overseas office in Los Angeles. It is truly an incredible time to be part of this family.
The culture and values that we instil at G&E Partners, both in our London and Leeds offices, are just as relevant today as they always have been. Every day we break down traditional hierarchical structures, ensuring that everyone is treated equally, which is how I believe the business world is moving. If someone has an opinion, just voice it! You won’t be dismissed or treated any differently for it. Nobody is considered better than anyone else, and nobody receives preferential treatment. It’s the G&E way.
As Managing Director and Partner, I believe in every single one of our employees. In my time here, I have seen several individuals come in at the very bottom and fight to get the top, outperforming themselves in the process. Some have even gone on to become managers or directors of the business.
In my 10 years in the recruitment industry, I have taken leadership advice and guidance from successful individuals at huge corporations (TickX and Charlton Morris to name a couple), and used methods that I believe could benefit my business the most. In this time, I have learned to not let my dyslexia hold me back and appreciate my surroundings as well as the support I have been given in order to support my current team.
I truly believe that if you have a manager that will run into battle for you and believe in you, then you build a partnership that is near impossible to break. This is the experience that I had with my first ever manager, and it is something I have never forgotten. I apply this approach when managing the dedicated young employees who come through every year at G&E.
The key message I’d really like to portray is that anything is possible when you are surrounded by the right people who believe in you. While the benefits associated with hard work are a nice addition, the true value of what we do lies in the recognition for something most people would ignore; an achievement that lets us express our journey to this point.
The recruitment industry can be incredibly rewarding when it comes to commercial and financial success. Still, I believe that the best companies create a culture where employees are eager to come in, work hard and be the best they can be, and the rewards will follow naturally.
To sum up, I’d like to thank each and every member of staff at G&E Partners, no matter how long you’ve been with us; our success is because of you.
You have contributed to shaping our growth and culture, and your efforts do not go unnoticed. Looking ahead, our focus is to live up to our reputation and continue in line with our expansion plans, providing the highest quality service to our clients and being the best company to work for, not just in Yorkshire but in the entire world.
