My leadership journey at G&E Partners: From Graduate to Managing Director

Following a record-breaking start to 2020 for G&E Partners in both Leeds and London, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on how far we’ve come in recent years, as well as my personal journey within the business.
Let’s be clear; sitting here now as Managing Director and Partner at G&E London did not just happen overnight. I’ve had to work bloody hard – as everyone does here, to get myself to the top.
After graduating in 2017 from the University of Portsmouth, I joined G&E Partners and was given the opportunity to develop a previously untapped market for the business; Logistics & Supply Chain.
I’ll make no qualms about the fact that it took some time to settle in, and that I hit the post a few times; the recruitment business can be ruthless after all! However, after finding my feet in this competitive and tenacious industry, the hard work began to pay off, and the results started to show.
In March 2018, less than a year after joining G&E, I secured a single commission cheque of £47,000, a company record that I’m proud to say still stands to this day.
After continuing to impress within my specialist marketplace, I was rewarded with the ‘Newcomer of the Year’ accolade in July 2018 and was invited to join the G&E entrepreneurial program one month later. This level of progression isn’t uncommon at G&E; if you work hard enough and are genuinely good at what you do, you will succeed with us.
Stepping into management has been an incredibly challenging but rewarding task. I took over the Logistics and Supply Chain team in April last year, which included managing my first graduate, Ben Hoffman.
Ben has since gone on to win ‘Newcomer of the Year’ himself after earning £270,000 for the business in his first year, smashing the company record and later becoming a Managing Consultant.
Our logistics team in London is currently made up of five dedicated individuals who I couldn’t be more proud of. We are one of the highest billing divisions at G&E, and we work in several competitive areas including Asia, Europe, Africa and the US.
Sitting here now, a few months after being promoted to Managing Director and Partner at G&E, as well as being invited to join the executive share scheme, I’m delighted to say that we have broken our sales records for the first two months of 2020 – and are showing no signs of slowing down.
While incredibly humbled, I am in no way surprised, as the culture instilled within G&E Partners is one that inherently promotes and cherishes hard work and robust performance.
My journey is just one of the many success stories that resonate throughout our business. If you are relentless, strong-willed and determined to succeed above all else, then you can achieve at G&E. This is the attitude I brought to the table from my very first day at the business, and it’s an attitude that Terry Ellis saw in me from the very beginning.
If you thrive in a competitive and tenacious environment and want to reach the very top at an accelerated pace, then I want to hear from you. I am living proof that you can go from graduate to MD in less than three years if you are good enough.
